A short novel by Jessie Patrick Findlay, published in Edinburgh and London by Oliphant Anderson & Ferrier in 1890 for a general Victorian reading public. The twenty wood-engraved vignettes set small landscapes — cottages, a river bend, a hilltop town, woodland — inside ruled circles wreathed in oak, ivy, wheat and roses, giving designers ready-made roundel devices, chapter headpieces and foliate frames.
