The Last Stake: a tale of Monte Carlo
A Monte Carlo gambling novel by Madame R. Foli, issued in London by T. Fisher Unwin in 1886 for the general circulating-library reader. The scanned pictures are repeated chapter-opening initials: a foliate blackletter N set in a square panel edged with saw-tooth triangles, beaded rules and a twisted-cord band, usable as drop caps, corner ornaments or tileable border strips.
