Lecture on Egypt, etc

FOWLER, John - Sir, Bart · 1880 · Privately printed · 32 pictures

A privately printed lecture on Egypt delivered by the British engineer Sir John Fowler in 1880, illustrated from sketches made during his Nile travels of the 1870s and issued for a small circle of readers. The plates are loose wood-engraved crowd scenes — the Cairo Dosèh, a sheikh's family en route to a fair, a village well, a funeral procession — usable as figure groups, parasols, palms and open-sky backgrounds.
