Annals of the Parish and the Ayrshire Legatees ... Illustrated by C. E. Brock. With an introduction by Alfred Ainger
John Galt's Scottish parish tales, reissued by Macmillan in London in 1895 with an introduction by Alfred Ainger and forty pen drawings by Charles Edmund Brock, aimed at general Victorian readers of regional fiction. Brock's line illustrations stage small domestic encounters: caption-captioned figures in late-Georgian coats and bonnets, doorways, cottage interiors, hatching for shadow, and generous white space around each group.
