Anvers à travers les âges
A French-language illustrated history of Antwerp edited by the city archivist Pierre Génard, issued in Belgium in 1887 for general readers and local antiquarians. Plates reproduce older engravings and drawings: civic processions filling a quay, a temple-like triumphal arch hung with allegorical paintings, gabled market squares with carts and figures, oath-taking scenes before a town hall, and armorial shields set into the margins.
