Sketches in Egypt
Charles Dana Gibson's illustrated account of his 1898 travels in Egypt, published by Harper & Brothers in New York in 1899 for an American magazine-reading public. The 56 pen-and-ink drawings record seated and standing figures in robes and headcloths, street crowds outside Cairo shopfronts, and temple steps and stone blocks, drawn in loose parallel hatching with large areas of blank page \u2014 useful for figure studies, crowd groupings, and open-field page layouts.
