Goethe's Italienische Reise. Mit 318 Illustrationen ... von J. von Kahle. Eingeleitet von ... H. Düntzer
An 1885 German edition of Goethe's Italian Journey, illustrated throughout with 318 pen drawings by Julie von Kahle and introduced by the Goethe scholar Heinrich Düntzer, made for German readers of the classics. The plates set landscape and street-scene vignettes inside rococo cartouches, garlands, putti and lettered banderoles in Fraktur, giving designers ready-made ornamental frames, headpieces and scrollwork borders.
