The miscellaneous works of Oliver Goldsmith, M.B. With a brief memoir of the author, etc
A one-volume London edition of Oliver Goldsmith's miscellaneous works, issued in 1841 with a short memoir, aimed at general Victorian readers of essays, poems and plays. The wood-engraved vignettes are small text-width scenes, some framed as ovals with ragged edges, built from dense cross-hatching: eighteenth-century figures in wigs, tricorne hats and hooped skirts arguing, courting or gesturing in plain interiors and sketchy landscapes, useful as period costume groups and as captioned narrative headpieces.
