Greater Love. By A. Gordon. And other stories by R. Barr, E. Halsted, etc
A late-Victorian anthology of magazine fiction — the title story by Alexander Gordon, with others by Robert Barr and Elinor Halsted — issued in London by Isbister & Co. in 1894 for general household reading. The 52 plates are pen-and-ink narrative scenes with quoted dialogue captions, built from loose hatching and heavy black masses: figures meeting on paths, crowded parlours, a door flung open on a startled group, useful for dramatic staging, silhouetted coats and period costume detail.
