La Suisse pittoresque
A French illustrated topographical survey of Switzerland by Jules Gourdault, published in 1882 for general readers and tourists. The 127 wood engravings are full-page landscape plates printed sideways: alpine summits under cloud, lake surfaces with small boats, town views with towers and bridges, and roads cut into cliff faces, offering wide tonal skies, silhouetted foreground trees, and small figures for scale.
