British Ornithology; being the history, with a coloured representation of every known species of British birds
A three-volume survey of British birds written and etched by George Graves, published in London from 1811 and sold to naturalists and collectors by subscription in parts. Each plate sets a single hand-coloured bird on a bare branch or reed bank against pale washed sky, with loose stippled foliage, low horizons and engraved Latin names, giving designers isolated bird figures, sparse landscape vignettes and a muted watercolour palette.
