Gabriel Gravier's 1874 French study arguing that Norsemen reached America in the tenth century, issued in Rouen for antiquarians and geographical societies as a large-paper edition. The plates here are printer's ornaments in fine line: symmetrical headpieces and tailpieces built from acanthus scrolls, grotesque horned masks, snakes and rosettes, usable as chapter dividers, borders and small vignette stamps.
