The wood engravings run to narrow horizontal landscape vignettes with rounded top corners and full-page night plates: sunbursts breaking through banked cloud, meteor showers over a sailing ship, snow peaks above a plain, useful as ready-made headpieces, sky textures and silhouetted horizons.
