Charles G. Harper's history of the London-to-Dover turnpike, written and illustrated by him and published by Chapman & Hall in London in 1895 for coaching antiquarians, cyclists and road travellers. The plates are pen-and-ink drawings of inn yards, high streets, hop-gardens and Kentish farm buildings, with line-hatched skies, small figures and captioned titles set below the image, useful for road-side architecture, signboards and open-air working scenes.
