Illustrirtes Gedenkbuch der Kriegsereignisse des Jahres 1866, etc
A German commemorative account of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, compiled by Carl Hartenstein and published in 1868 with lithographic plates for a popular German readership. The 39 hand-coloured lithographs show cavalry melees, artillery crews, wounded men and battlefield panoramas with smoke and distant villages, each framed by a ruled border and a Fraktur caption naming the engagement and date, giving designers horses in motion, uniform colour blocks and period display lettering.
