A pocket-sized visitor's guide to Hastings, Winchelsea and Rye on the Sussex coast, issued in its second edition in 1827 for travellers touring the south-east watering places. The plates are small copperplate topographical views printed sideways to the page: ruined round towers and gatehouses overgrown with ivy, cottages behind massed foliage, coastal hills and cloud-streaked skies, with tiny figures and birds for scale, useful for engraved landscape vignettes, ruin motifs and tonal sky textures.
