Facing Death: or, the Hero of the Vaughan Pit. A tale of the coal mines
A boys' adventure novel by G. A. Henty set in an English coal-mining district, published by Blackie & Son in London in 1897 for young readers. The plates are pen-and-ink line drawings of pit villages, colliers and their families, rescue parties underground after an explosion, and outdoor encounters, with dense crosshatching, strong figure grouping and captions set in small capitals along the plate edge.
