A boys' adventure novel of the 1857 Indian Mutiny by G. A. Henty, issued in London by Griffith & Farran in 1883 for a juvenile readership. The plates here are wood-engraved tailpieces: bilaterally symmetrical ornaments built from strapwork cartouches, acanthus scrolls, spear-tipped finials, laurel wreaths, paired birds and thistle or poppy heads, ready to lift as section dividers, spot ornaments and empty medallion frames for monograms.
