Ishmael Pengelly, an outcast
A Victorian novel by the Cornish Methodist writer Joseph Hocking, issued in London by Ward, Lock & Co. in 1893 for the popular circulating-library readership. The plates here are not scenes but the book's printers' ornaments: small wood-engraved tailpieces and head bands in black line — symmetrical leaf-and-tendril sprays, strapwork cartouches with crowns and oval bosses, and a beaded oval medallion framed by grasses — usable as rules, dividers and frame stock.
