Zillah. A romance
A late Victorian romance novel by Joseph Hocking, published in London by Ward, Lock & Co. in 1895 for the popular fiction market. The wood-engraved plates stage melodramatic moments — a woman kneeling with raised arms in a mirrored parlour, two riders fleeing on a galloping horse — supplying period interiors, mantelpiece and drapery detail, and captioned dialogue set beneath the frame.
