A German illustrated account of Sicily's present and past, written by G. F. von Hoffweiler with 36 original drawings by Alfred Metzener cut on wood at R. Brend'amour & Comp. in Düsseldorf, published in 1870 for general readers at home. The plates are small landscape vignettes with soft open hatching and edges that fade into the page: coastal panoramas, hillside towns behind walls, ruined temples among scrub, shepherds and travellers set small for scale.
