Eleanor Holmes's novel A Week in Arcadia, published in London in 1888 with drawings by Caroline Paterson, aimed at general Victorian fiction readers. Pen-and-ink plates show captioned courtship scenes in fields and lanes, paired with vignettes of wild roses, brambles, wheat-ears and framed miniature landscapes that supply ready-made headpieces, tailpieces and circular garland borders.
