Alice Home; or, the revenge of the blighted one ... A romance
A cheap sensation romance published in London in 1848 for the penny-serial readership, issued with wood-engraved plates set directly into its double-column letterpress. The scenes are melodrama in a few props — cloaked men with raised dagger or levelled pistol, women in wide skirts kneeling or recoiling, heavy curtains, an oil lamp on a round table — usable as cut-out figures, silhouettes and text-and-image page layouts.
