The Spirit of the Plays of Shakspeare exhibited in a Series of Outline Plates, illustrative of the story of each play ... With quotations and descriptions. L.P
Frank Howard's five-volume set of outline plates retelling each Shakespeare play scene by scene, engraved and published by T. Cadell in London in 1833 for readers and theatre-goers following the texts. The plates are pure contour line without shading or tone: crowded groups of costumed figures in stage-like interiors and landscapes, drawn inside a ruled border, useful for clean figure silhouettes, drapery outlines, and sparse linework that can be scaled or filled.
