Physiography ... New edition

Huxley, Thomas Henry · 1884 · Macmillan & Co. · 106 pictures

An 1884 Macmillan edition of Thomas Henry Huxley's Physiography, an introductory earth-science textbook written in London for students and general readers. The plates are engraved line diagrams: cross-sections of strata, faults, volcanic cones with dykes, and islands ringed by reefs, built from ruled hatching and stipple with letter keys and foot scales, useful as cutaway motifs and ready-made hatching textures.
