An 1885 Routledge & Sons reissue of Elizabeth Inchbald's 1791 novel A Simple Story, illustrated and prefaced with a memoir for late-Victorian household readers. The wood-engraved plates set two or three figures in Georgian dress against drawing rooms, doorways and theatre boxes, with tall coats, breeches, panniered gowns and feathered headdresses drawn in fine line and light cross-hatching; useful for period costume silhouettes, gesture studies and sparse interior backgrounds.
