A German sensational account of the Polish January Uprising of 1863, credited to "E. W. J." and published in 1864 for popular readers, with captioned lithographic plates printed and coloured by Schotte. The sixteen hand-coloured lithographs stage abductions, night-time conscriptions, street fighting and executions in bright flat colour against sketchy backgrounds, useful for uniform detail, crowd groupings and German captions set in decorative script.
