On the Trail of Don Quixote: being a record of rambles in the ancient province of La Mancha ... Illustrated by D. Vierge
A travel narrative by August F. Jaccaci retracing Don Quixote's route through La Mancha, published in London by Lawrence & Bullen in 1897 for English readers drawn to Spain and Cervantes, with 138 drawings by the Spanish illustrator Daniel Urrabieta Vierge. The pen-and-ink vignettes are loose and heavily hatched, unframed and floating in white page space: whitewashed village walls, mule carts and wine casks, bare hillsides and windmills, knots of travellers sketched in a few strokes, useful as light line textures, landscape silhouettes and figure groups.
