Maidenhood; or, the Verge of the Stream
A volume of moral verse and prose for young women, written by Laura Jewry Valentine and published in London in 1876 for a middle-class domestic readership. Its plates are line-engraved headpieces and tailpieces: symmetrical sprays of ivy, laurel, daisies and rosebuds, scrolling foliate scrolls, and emblems such as a balance scale, usable as rules, dividers and spot ornaments.
