The History of a Slave ... With ... illustrations ... from the author's drawings
An illustrated narrative of the East African slave trade written and drawn by Harry Hamilton Johnston, published in London by Kegan Paul in 1889 for a general Victorian readership. The 48 plates are line-engraved drawings with quoted captions set along the edge: caravans and porters on the march, village gatherings under trees, loaded camels and donkeys at a walled courtyard, hyenas among rocks at night, useful for figure groups, animal studies and captioned plate layouts.
