The Lass and the Lady; or, Love's ladder. A tale of thrilling interest. [Completed by Thomas Frost. With plates
A cheap part-issue melodramatic novel of 1855, begun by the Chartist writer Ernest Charles Jones and finished by Thomas Frost, printed in London for the proprietors by McGowan & Co. for a popular serial-reading audience. The 25 plates are pale etched interiors with captioned dialogue, showing drawing rooms, hallways and a bare cellar peopled by small full-length figures in frock coats and crinolines — useful for Victorian domestic settings, gesture-driven staging and picture-and-mantelpiece detail.
