A Lawful Crime: a story of to-day
A late-Victorian novel by Edward Kent, issued in 1899 by the Leadenhall Press in London for general circulating-library readers. The 56 illustrations are small silhouette vignettes used as headpieces and tailpieces — ruled rectangular frames holding solid black masses of sailing barges, masts, gulls, hillside villas and low horizons — offering designers ready-made high-contrast marine strips, panel borders and coastal skyline cutouts.
