The Strange Story at Lee
A short novel by Alice King, issued in London by Twiss & Son in 1887 for the general circulating-library reader. The illustrations are not scenes but printers' ornaments: symmetrical acanthus-scroll cartouches with pendant drops, thistle and poppy sprays over a monogram, and a wide band of vine and blossom with a perched bird, all in fine grey line engraving on cream paper, usable as headpieces, tailpieces and rules.
