A German-language reference survey of general and regional geography, edited by Alfred Kirchhoff with contributions from specialist scholars and issued in 1886 for students, teachers and educated lay readers. The plates are numbered wood-engraved figures set in ruled frames: hatched relief maps of former glacier limits, layered valley and cave cross-sections with keyed numbers, and concentric viewshed diagrams, all usable as line-art map motifs, geological strata patterns and diagram framing devices.
