Backsheesh! or, Life and Adventures in the Orient. With descriptive and humorous sketches. ... With ... illustrations, etc
Thomas Wallace Knox's 1875 American travel narrative of Egypt, Palestine, Turkey and points east, sold by subscription to general readers who wanted anecdote and humour alongside description. The wood engravings run to wide horizontal headpiece bands with pointed ornamental cartouches breaking the frame, showing robed figures, water jars, camels, palms and flat desert horizons in fine grey line suited to rules, borders and chapter openers.
