The Caged Linnet; or, Love's labour not lost
A domestic moral novel by Matilda Leathes, issued in London in 1883 by J. F. Shaw and Co., a publisher of evangelical fiction for family and young readers. The single wood-engraved plate, captioned with a line of dialogue, shows a cloaked woman carrying a sleeping child through a lit doorway at night: usable for drapery folds, foliage hatching, and lamplit door silhouettes.
