A Political Lecture on Heads. By the Black Dwarf [i.e. T. J. Wooler] ... Third edition

WOOLER, Thomas Jonathan. · 1820 · J. Johnston · 24 pictures

A radical political satire published in London in 1820 by the journalist Thomas Jonathan Wooler, writing as the Black Dwarf, which mocks the ministers, generals and demagogues of Regency Britain through a lecture on their heads. The wood-engraved plates are captioned profile busts — bald crowns, queues, curled wigs, gorgets and epaulettes — cut in close parallel hatching against the show-through of letterpress text, useful for caricature silhouettes, period costume detail and captioned head-and-shoulders formats.
