Herinneringen uit den worstelstrijd met Spanje ... Met op staal gegraveerde platen
A Dutch popular history of the revolt against Spain, written by Jacob van Lennep and issued in 1853 with steel-engraved plates for general readers at home. The plates are light outline engravings of sixteenth-century scenes—councils seated around a table, pike-carrying companies marching through town gates, wounded men before walled cities—with pale grey shading, unframed vignettes and open paper around the figures, useful for period costume, crowd massing and figure groups that sit loose on a page.
