A local history of the town of Melun, compiled by the archaeologist Gabriel Leroy and published in France in 1887 for regional readers and antiquarians. The plates include square wood-engraved chapter initials in which A and M are set against hatched panels of foliate scroll, framed by bead and leaf borders, ready for reuse as drop caps or ornament tiles.
