Amy Levy's 1888 London novel about four sisters who set up a photography business, issued by Fisher Unwin for a general Victorian reading public. The plates in this index are chapter ornaments printed from a single line block: a symmetrical winged cherub head flanked by scrolling foliage, rosettes and pendant fleurons, usable as a header rule, divider or spot motif at small sizes.
