Shifts and Expedients of Camp Life, Travels, etc
A practical field manual of 1871 by William Barry Lord and the painter-explorer Thomas Baines, published in London for emigrants, hunters, surveyors and travellers needing to improvise shelter, transport, traps and weapons far from supply. The 378 wood engravings are small instructional cuts: men hauling a seine over cross-sectioned water, gun locks and triggers in profile, spoked-wheel carts and drags on bare ground, knots, tackle and camp rigs, all in fine outline with hatched shading and ample white space for diagram-style reuse.
