A documentary edition of sixteenth-century letters and building estimates for the Château de Chenonceau, including papers of the architect Philibert de l'Orme, edited by Casimir Chevalier and printed in France in 1864 for antiquarians and architectural historians. The plates are wood-engraved headpieces and tailpieces in Renaissance revival taste: symmetrical scrollwork and strapwork framing crowned cartouches, reclining putti, urns, grotesque masks and winged chimeras, usable as rules, banners and centred ornaments.
