A Victorian novel of the English Lake District published anonymously under the initials S. M. in London and Derby in 1878, issued for general circulating-library readers. The plates here are printer's ornaments rather than scenes: symmetrical engraved headpieces and tailpieces built from scrolling acanthus, urns, rosettes and pendant drops, drawn in fine grey line and usable as chapter dividers, borders and small spot decorations.
