Pen and pencil reminiscences of a campaign in South Africa ... Illustrated with ... colour-tinted lithographs
Thomas J. Lucas, a British officer, published his memoir of a South African frontier campaign in London in 1861 for readers at home following colonial wars. Its tinted lithographs show mounted troopers skirmishing in bush and open veld, beehive huts, grass-hooded wagons and figures with spears and shields, offering landscape backdrops, horse poses and muted washes of green, ochre and red.
