An English translation of Georg Lunge's German technical treatise on distilling coal-tar and ammoniacal liquor, published by J. van Voorst in London in 1882 for industrial chemists and works engineers. The plates are line-engraved sectional elevations and plans of stills, condensers, coolers, retorts and piping, keyed with letters and numbers, giving designers precise industrial machine profiles, brickwork hatching and pipe-run diagrams.
