The History of England from the earliest dawn of authentic record ... Embellished with ... engravings

LYTTLETON, George Courtney. · 1803 · J. Stratford · 49 pictures

A multi-volume popular history of England by George Courtney Lyttleton, issued in London by J. Stratford in 1803 for subscribers buying the work in illustrated parts. The 49 plates are outline stipple engravings of scenes from medieval reigns, set in octagonal frames with engraved captions: kings enthroned under drapery, mitred bishops with croziers, ribbed vaults and round columns, and tent-side charter signings — useful for figure groups, heraldic banners, Gothic interior settings, and the decorative octagon border itself.
