Reminiscences of Rome
Eugene MacCartan's account of travels in Rome, issued in 1883 by the London Catholic house Burns & Oates for devout English readers. The three indexed images are ornamental chapter initials in medieval revival style, each a dragon or long-beaked bird coiled into the letter with flame-like foliage and stippled ground, printed once in blue-violet and twice in black, usable as drop caps, monograms or small spot ornaments.
