Out of their Element. A novel
A three-volume-style Victorian novel by Lady Margaret Elizabeth Majendie, published in London by Richard Bentley & Son in 1884 for the circulating-library readership. The plates here are small printer's ornaments used as chapter headpieces and tailpieces: wedge-shaped sprigs of five-petalled blossoms and pointed leaves, a scrolling Tudor rose and poppy on a curling stem, and a fan of daisies tied with a ribbon, all in black line suited to reuse as spot art, dividers, or repeat motifs.
