A Booke of Olde Manchester and Salford. By Alfred Darbyshire ... Edited with an introduction by George Milner. [With illustrations

DARBYSHIRE, Alfred. · 1887 · John Heywood · 85 pictures

An antiquarian survey of vanished buildings in Manchester and Salford, drawn and written by the architect Alfred Darbyshire, edited by George Milner and issued by John Heywood in 1887 for local readers and members of the city's literary and antiquarian clubs. The plates are fine pen-line elevations and street views of half-timbered houses, gabled oriel bays, stone church towers and inn frontages, many set narrow to sit inside a text column, offering designers hatched timber framing, tracery windows and tall vertical building silhouettes.
