A penny-blood serial novel by Thomas Peckett Prest, issued by Edward Lloyd in London around 1850 for a cheap weekly readership. The 49 wood engravings set captioned melodrama in cottage interiors, hotel rooms and caves \u2014 arrests, abductions and confrontations staged with top hats, tailcoats and full-skirted gowns \u2014 supplying stock figures, period costume silhouettes and framed narrative vignettes with letterpress captions.
